Jen keeps saying I should wear ours ... mine ... at the IC Carnival next weekend. I keep telling her that's a no go, because if I'm wearing one it's a guarantee that I'll stumble (not fall) while holding a beer. That would lead people to think I was drunk while carrying the baby.

I'd rather push her in the stroller while sipping a beer. Safer for the image that way, I think.

Guinness launches new beer

The makers of Guinness are touting a new stout beer in the U.S., a maltier, fizzier version of its older, creamier sibling, the world's best-selling stout.

"This is more about refreshment and zing," said Guinness master brewer Fergal Murray, who created the new carbonated brew.

The news is dreadful: According to the Census, since 2006 we have been living in a republic where, for the first time in the history of the republic, Americans drink more bottled water than we drank beer.

Why is this important? It’s important because beer is a socially oriented beverage, and bottled water is a privately oriented one.
There’s a reason that beer commercials tend to include lots of people hanging out in a room together, and bottled water commercials tend to include lone individuals climbing things and running around by themselves, usually on a beach at sunrise - even though they are not being chased.

Should you drink with your kids?

Interesting article in Time (and it even has an Arkansas connection) about ways to prevent binge drinking in teens by letting parents drink with them ... kind of the way it's done in foreign countries.

Our friend Mark once told Jennifer and I about letting his two children drink as they were growing up. His son asked for a beer at 12 or 13 and he let him have one, thinking that if he drank it around his parents it wouldn't be a big deal once he got older. Sounds like Mark was right ...

ATHENS (Reuters) - Nine British women were facing prostitution charges after being arrested at the weekend for taking part in an oral sex competition in the Greek holiday island of Zakynthos, police said on Monday.

Six British and six Greek men, including two bar owners, were also charged in the incident, which took place at Laganas beach in the south of the Ionian island, which lies off the west coast of mainland Greece, police said.

The women, who came to the popular resort on holiday, had been paid to take part in the competition, which was video recorded and was to be posted on the Internet, police said.

The men were charged with encouraging obscene behavior.

In recent years, Laganas has established itself as one of Greece's most popular destinations for twenty-something holidaymakers and is known for its wild party scene.

Around 15 million people -- a fifth of them British -- visit the eastern Mediterranean country each year, drawn by its soaring summer temperatures, azure waters and sandy beaches.

As you know, Sean is a [redacted] who works for [redacted] in Washington D.C. But don't let his Capitol Hill gig fool you, Sean is good people, especially when he's not taunting me about the availability of Yuengling (a great beer), even though he roots for the Dallas Cowboys.

Man, the economy must be bad

How else do you explain this?

Cash-strapped drinkers are starting to trade down to economy beers, the chief executive of Miller Brewing Co. said Thursday.

The Milwaukee-based brewer saw some shift between higher-priced, premium beers and economy beers such as Miller High Life and Milwaukee's Best starting in January, Tom Long told reporters on a conference call.

Looking at the results of the "most-prestigious beer brewers competition," I'm convinced they had college kids, homeless drunks and mouthbreathers aplenty as judges.

How else do you explain Old Milwaukee Light, Lone Star Light and Natural Light sweeping the American-style Light Lager category?

Even worse, Steel Reserve (without a doubt the most rancid swill I have ever had the misfortune of tasting) won the American-Style Specialty Lager category. (Sidenote: They still make Ice beers? Who knew!)

Oh well, I guess next time we're drinking cheap beers, we can say they're award-winning brews.
